We Applaud These Creative Responses To Sexts

Degen - Presentation - Spring 2013 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Text messages can be a great way to communicate with friends and fam, but sometimes people use texting as a way to be creeps and harass people. Some people have gotten creative in how they respond to weird messages, and we’ve got a few examples for ya.

One woman had a guy she didn’t even know hitting on her through text messages. After seeing he wasn’t taking the hint, she began responding to him with lyrics from Smash Mouth’s “All Star.” The guy was dense enough to think she was playing dirty puns on him or something, because he seemed to get more worked up until the end, when she landed the reality on him. There’s also the Feminist Phone Intervention. If some guy or girl is making you uncomfortable about getting your number, you can give them (669) 221-6251. When they try to contact it, they’ll get a quote from feminist writer bell hooks.

The site explains it’s doing this “because we’re raised to know that evasion or rejection can be met with violence” and “because why give any old fake number, when you can have bell hooks screen your calls?”

And as icing on the cake, the Feminist Phone Intervention gives any extra money to The National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health.

These are some creative ways people have responded, but keep in mind that if you ever get creepy or harassing texts that worry you, please contact the police. Your protection is of number one importance!
