QUESTION

ok i txt people all day no matter what im doing but i dont ask them where are they and who they are with, i just have a conversation, i was wondering if this is considered controlling?

ANSWER

In general, texting someone is not controlling in and of itself. Some people do text all day because it's the easiest and fastest method of communicating with others. Texting is a problem, however, when it's used as a way to monitor another person's life, like constantly asking them what they are doing, where they are and/or who they are with—this is controlling. Texting is also a problem when it's used as a way to invade someone else's life, meaning you're constantly sending someone messages when they don't want you to—this may be considered harassment or even stalking.

If you're constantly texting someone (in particular your dating partner) demanding to know their doings and whereabouts, then your behavior is crossing the line into controlling and possibly even abusive. It's important to respect your partner's time and their life. Remember, healthy relationships consist of trust and respect. If these are missing, the relationship is not the healthy one either of you deserve.
